Again Trisha

Trisha, who is always in the eye of some controversy or the other, is now caught in a fresh row. The beautiful lass is said to be found with a leading hero, with whom she hasn’t acted in any film. According to grapevine, she was found with the tall man at midnight parties in a famous star hotel in Chennai.

One wonders how the leading actress manages such friendship amidst busy schedule in Tamil and Telugu. Trisha, however, seems to be unperturbed by this kind of news on her. She has successfully passed through more maligning gossips on her personal life.

This time Trisha

Heroine Trisha is going to do an item girl in Rajnikanth next film Kucheludu which will start its shooting from March 10th. The trend of big heroines doing item numbers has started long ago and now Trisha joins the gang of item girls.

Kucheludu is a bi-lingual movie which is being made in Tamil and Telugu simultaneously. Ashwini Dutt is producing the telugu version on Vyjayanthi Movies banner. P. Vasu is directing the movie. Jagapathi Babu and Tabu play important roles in the telugu version of Kucheludu.

Meanwhile Rajni’s another movie Robot will also have its official shooting launch on March 10th, the same day of Kucheludu launch. Robot has big names like Aishwarya Rai doing the female lead and Shankar directing as well as producing the movie on Sri Surya Movies banner.

So Rajnikanth fans might have two films this year for them to enjoy

Vellithirai

Starring: Prithviraj, Prakash Raj, Gopika, Lakshmi Rai, M.S. Bhaskar, Sampath, Srikanth and others.

Direction: Viji

Music: G V Prakash

Cinematography: Panneerselvam

Production: Prakash Raj

A witty satire of the perils of stardom in Indian cinema. Though Vellithriai, the Tamil remake of Malayalam’s Udayananu Tharam, lacks the original’s brilliant touches, it is still entertaining to an extent. Vellithirai brings back the successful duo of Prakash Raj – Prithviraj together and the combination works well, if not as superbly as the legendary Mohan Lal - Srinivasan combo in 'Udhayananu Tharam'.
Saravanan (Prithviraj) is a struggling assistant director. He lives in Kodambakam, where there are several other hopefuls and wannabes: friends and rivals struggling together. Saravanan’s dream is to make his own film and he has a foolproof scheme to achieve this goal: write a sure-fire script and insist on directing it himself. His roommate, Kannayan (Prakash Raj) a sly, struggling and untalented actor hatches a plot to steal the script, pass it off on his own, and insist on being the star of the film. One day Saravanan pitches his story to Trisha (playing herself) and is shocked to discover that Trisha already knows the story. His dreams shattered, he turns to the famous actress Mythili (Gopika), for help. Can Saravanan outwit Kannayan who has now become a big star? We won’t elaborate more on the plot that takes interesting turns except to say that the climax borrows from the Hollywood satire about moviemaking, Bowfinger. Prakash Raj in an interview to The Hindu said, “Don’t call it a remake. Call it an inspiration.” The Tamil keeps the outline of the original’s plot but changes many details, including the dialogue, which is written with an eye to a Tamil audience. Vellitherai deftly satirizes commercial cinema: and in the process indicting Indian stars and their nearly fascistic behavior on and off a film set. The most pointed dialogue is when Prakash Raj says to his friend, 'Mustafa turning into Hanuman is possible only in tinsel town'. The satirical portions in the film have been crafted deftly, especially the scene between director and star about the absurd age factor of Indian movie heroes.

Prithviraj is wonderful in this role. He doesn’t stereotype the struggling artist but gives the character doubt, integrity, and compassion. Prakash Raj is flamboyant and complex as the bad actor who has to act to save his life. A challenge for any actor: how does a good actor play a bad one? His over the top stylish makeover as the star in the second half may make him look funny, but that is the point: to make fun of this pompous man. Gopika as expected is quite natural. Though the film’s focus on the personal problems of a heroine makes for good viewing, her extended mushy act does get a bit tiresome.

Everyone in Vellitherai has worked hard to make this resemble a movie about a movie as much as possible. M.S. Bhaskar playing the manager’s role, and Charlie as production manager illustrate this best. Cinematography by Paneerselvam is top notch. One of G.V.Praskash’s melodies is really foot tapping: 'Kanavugal' canned at several beautiful locations is a visual treat. But his background score does leave lot to be desired. The choreography and sets for the songs are tasteful, even ironic. They are at once mocking and sincere, suggesting that commercial cinema is always a compromise: something a serious filmmaker like Saravanan is forced to contend with on his road to success. Viji, the debuting director, who had earlier scored handsomely for his dialogues in movies like Mozhi and Azhagiya Theeya, seems to be learning the ropes in the direction front. Climax for one could have been shaped up better. Overall, movies about movies are rare enough in Tamil cinema and a new addition to the genre is always welcome and the attempt is much appreciated.

Katrina Kaif admits being in love

So much has been written on Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan. Their silence also gives more space for speculation. This time around, Katrina has opened up and admitted that she has been in love.

The pretty actress said that she has been in love and termed it as something wonderful that words couldn't explain. She refused to say if the man was Salman Khan but gave enough hint by saying that she is not averse to marrying an actor.

Meanwhile, her career has opened up having signed two films deal with Studios 18 following the success of Apne, Partner, Namaste London and Welcome. She is waiting for the release of films like Race and Singh is Kinng. However, she said that she has no date available for the film London Dreams.

Nayan's newsmaker outfit for Aegan!

Although Billa has now become a thing of past, Nayan's eye ball grabbing stylish but inadequate outfits for the movie are still the topic of discussion. More so, the costumes looked perfect on her well toned physique as opposed to the plump frame she used to carry. Looks like she is keen to repeat the history and sources make it clear that her costumes for Aegan, although not as scanty as Billa, are being designed with utmost attention. Which means her fans are in for another visual treat in a different light this time around.

Ajith sports a beard for Aegan, directed by Raju Sundaram and scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Nazir, Suhasini, and Navdeep are also a part of the movie that is likely to hit the screens by mid 2008.

One more important character in Aegan

The forthcoming project of Ajith directed by Raju Sundaram is the topic of discussion in the media now. The film went on floors without a title and after a while it was announced that it would be called Aegan inspired from the Sivapuranam. The crew had completed a schedule at Hong Kong successfully and would be proceeding further with it right now at various locales. Nayanthara who played the role of Ajith’s love interest in Billa will once again be doing the role of heroine in Aegan too.

Now the crew has announced that there would be a character of Ajith’s younger brother in the film and it would be Navdeep who had made an impressive debut with Arindhum Ariyamalum and Ilavattam. There would also be a heroine to accompany Navdeep and the unit is scouting for the same right now. Navdeep is a happy man for obvious reasons and avers that Aegan would surely be a turning point in his life.

Ghilli, Bheema, Dhool – All on the bus!

Tired of the long and exasperating journey while travelling in buses? Well, it shouldn’t be so anymore. Wonder why? Read on!

A.M. Rathnam, one of the topmost producers in the film industry, has many movies to his credit including hits like 7G Rainbow Colony, Ghilli, Indian, Dhool, Bheema to name a few. Having reaped success after success, he has now decided to do something that very few would even think of. Yes, Rathnam has given the rights to screen all his films to the transport corporations and companies that ply buses to various destinations. And this is inclusive of the dubbing rights also. Interestingly, his very recent film, Bheema also features in this list. Isn’t it one more reason to hop on a bus and take off to your favourite destination?

Bharathi refuses…

Bharathi’s role as a commercial sex worker in Ammuvaaghiya Naan received critical acclaim from all quarters. The film had a totally different approach which was liked by people. Bharathi’s performance matched that of veteran actor Parthiban in the film. Now this film is slated to be made in Telugu and the producers have approached her to do the same role in Telugu also. However Bharathi has refused the offer stating that if she agrees to do the role in Telugu also, there is a danger of her getting typecast and she may not be getting other roles. Secondly she has other satisfactory offers in Tamil which are coming her way and the young actress is careful in choosing them. Recently her appearance with Vikranth in Nenjathai Killadhe was also talked about and the lady is not in a great hurry to grab every offer.

Vivek in an educational film

Chennai Corporation will feature Vivek in an awareness film.Following N.S.Krishnan, Vivek has been informing people of useful information in a humourous way. That was how he landed the Sinna Kalaivanar film. Now Vivek is acting in an educational film by Chennai Corporation.

Chennai Corporation has decided to punish those who litter the roads, spit on the streets and pass urine in public. In this educational film Vivek is explaining in his own style what a health hazard they are.Chennai Corporation Mayor Ma. Subramanian said that efforts are taken to screen this one-minute film all theatres in the city.

Manisha dances for one song

Manisha Koirala has agreed to do one dance number. For a long time, Manisha Koirala has been absent from Bollywood. Apart from family issues and romance, she was fed up acting in same kind of roles.

She put a temporary end to acting and went to New York to take up the study of direction. The study is over now. In the meantime, Manisha wants to take up acting again.Having accepted serious characters, she has also agreed to do one dance number for a Telugu movie. The film is called 'Nagaram' Srikanth and Gajapathi Babu are the heroes in the film, directed by Srinivas. Manisha has agreed to the dance number for this film.

What makes people wonder is why agree to do a dance number for someone who want to begin her second innings in acting?

Trisha wants to act without 'Makeup'

Looks like Trisha is tired of playing the same old girl next door characters. She has recently done a film titled Abhiyum Nanum with Prakash Raj . The highlight of the film is that she ahs no make up in the film. Now that she has tasted the blood, Trisha wants it more.

It is said that the sexy south Indian beauty is in a look out for some different type of character which do not need make up at all and all is done very naturally. There is a buzz that she wants to do the roles like Sangeetha’s role in SHIVAPUTRUDU.

Soon she will also start a movie with Nagarjuna from the month of March and it is said that Trisha has asked her director for less make up role. But the director said that since it was a glamorous role she needs to do it with even more extra Make up.

But the latest news is that Selvaraghavan who made Aaduvari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule recently is ready to offer her a role of her choice. But he is still waiting for the final script.

If at all goes swell and accordingly, then it is for sure that Trisha is going to metamorphose into a plain Jane in some of her movies. Previously Simran who was considered as the top glamour queen in south India shifted her roles to non glamorous roles which can be cemented as she did a mother character role in Amrutha and this was before her marriage.

May be Trisha is also thinking of marriage soon, so she is trying out everything in her film career.

Narrow Escape

Bipasha Basu while shooting for a climax sequence of her next much hyped film Race had a narrow escape from a serious accident. While shooting for the climax sequence Bipasha had to stop her car and start running. The scene involves also a killer who chases her in a BMW car and the killer rams into the BMW and the car blows up behind her.

Though this scene was performed after lot of retakes and rehearsals, still the stunt master Allan Amin had a though of the risk to the actress. In spite of taking the necessary precautions the cannons which must have shot the BMW into the air got delayed due to some technical nag for a fraction of second and Bipasha was first at the risk of being rammed by the 40 Lakhs BMW and when later she was running, she had the danger of the flying car landing on her.

But fortunately the sexy lasso escaped it narrowly and is safe.

When asked about her experience, Daring BIPS said that she is comfortable with any kind of stunt, may be it can be too dangerous, but is afraid of dangling in the air as she has a Phobia of heights.

Take care Bipasha at least for your fans and Your John!

Shreya to get married

Vishal’s brother Vikram Krishna is all set to tie the matrimonial knot with actor and VJ Shreya. The pair were formally engaged in September 2007.

Vikram, apart from producing the Tamil film Thimiru in which Vishal played the lead role, had also produced it.The wedding will take place at the Park Sheraton Hotel, Chennai, on 9th March 2008. A day prior to this, a reception will be hosted for the couple at the Kalaignar Arangam, Anna Arivalayam in Chennai.

Top artistes and senior politicians along with a host of others are expected to grace the occasion and bless the newlyweds. Behindwoods.com wishes this young couple a very happy married life.

Padmapriya's 'Striker'

It is a season for films with sports subjects.
Lagaan' was a cricket-centred film. It became a success and so, Bollywood had got on that track.
'Lagaan' was followed by 'Chak de India', 'Goal' and so on. But Bollywood is still in the grip of sports subjects.
Now 'Striker' is on the floors with the subject of carom. Padmapriya is the heroine and her pair will be Siddharth. Yes, the same Siddharth of 'Boys' fame!I always admire Siddharth. Even before 'Rang De Basanti', I used to like him, waxes Padmapriya.
Other than 'Striker' Siddharth is also acting in 'Blood brothers' He is a homosexual in the film.

Siddharth is equally adept in choosing characters, like Padmapriya.

Yamini Sharma to star in the re-make of 'Jeganmohini'

Yamini Sharma will be acting along with Namitha in 'Jeganmohini'.
Vittalacharya's 'Jeganmohini' was a landmark in Tamil film history. What makes one wonder on seeing that film even today is Jayamalini's glamour and creating ghost like images on the screen when graphics was not even heard of.

Vittalacharya's son is re-making 'Jeganmohini'. Namitha will act in Jayamalini's role of Mohini.

Feeling that one Mohini is not enough, Yamini Sharma who appeared as Ramba in 'Indiralogathil Na.Azhagappan' has also been finalized for this film.It is yet to be decided if Yamini will act Mohini or not.

Whichever role Yamini comes in, she will be a Mohini for the youth!

Vishal the 'Superman'

Vishal, the tall dark and handsome hero, has carved a niche for himself, as an action hero, with his adrenalin pumping stunts. Presently, this actor is busy with Sathyam, a high budget film. With this actor churning out one movie after the other, it is no surprise that he is geared up to star in a film of the Superman genre.

Vijay's 'Andavan'

The punch dialogue that Rajini made famous was 'Andavan solran, Arunachalam seyran'.
All that Vijay had removed from the string of words is 'Andavan solran'.

The perfect system that Vijay used to follow was to choose the next film when he was completing one. But that system is temporarily broken now.

Now he has gone back to his old ways. While working in 'Kuruvi', he has given the responsibility of choosing his next film to Prabhu Deva. After completing the film produced by Ayangaran International, he has given call sheet to a film by R.B.Choudhary.
The story is by an assistant who had worked with the directors like Maduravan and others. The title of the film is 'Andavan'.

It is a chance for Vijay fans to put up posters exclaiming 'Engal Andavare'!

Chandramuki's achievement

After creating waves in South India, 'Chandramuki' is receiving very good receptionin the North too.
P.Vasu re-made the Malayalam film 'Manichitrathazh' directed by Fazil in Kannada. Later it was made into Tamil as 'Chandramuki'.

Even though it was a remake of Malayalam film, it was a big hit in Kerala. In Telugu too it was a great success. The film that had a great reception in South Indian languages is now being dubbed in Hindi.
They have given a print order of 150 prints for Hindi 'Chandramuki'. This is the first time 150 prints were ordered for a dubbed film.

It was in the last year Priyadarshan had produced 'Manichitrathazh' in Hindi as 'Bhol buliah'. Said the producer of Hindi even then 'Chandramuki' has raised great expectations there.

Saroja

After proving his mettle as a director with Chennai – 28, director Venkat Prabhu is geared up for his next project Saroja. Kajal Agarwal plays the lead role in Saroja. Speaking on her stint in Kollywood, she rued that though Pazhani has won her a good name it did not give her the much-deserved break. Perhaps, Saroja will make up for this. Disclosing more about this film, she revealed that it deals with one day in the life of a person. She plays the role of a middleclass girl. Saroja, she feels, has enough scope to perform well. This film is also being made in Telugu, she added.

Her other current projects in Telugu include Beeradu with Ram Saran Teja and Aata Adistha with Nithin. Signing off on a happy note, she told us that her Tamil film Bommalattam is slated for release very soon.
