Vijay opts for remake again?

Vijay had always tasted success with remakes. A majority of his movies were remade from Telugu.

Buzz is that Vijay's next ‘Singam’ is reportedly a remake of Bollywood blockbuster ‘Soldier’, which had Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta in lead roles.

Prabhu Deva, who is currently directing Salman Khan for ‘Pokkiri’ Hindi remake had watched ‘Soldier’ recently, following which he reportedly recommended Vijay to redo it in Tamil.

And Vijay, who felt comfortable to work with Prabhu Deva has asked the choreographer turned director to wield the megaphone for the Tamil version, hoping for another blockbuster on the lines of ‘Pokkiri’.

Sienna Miller on her dad and nude scenes

British actress Sienna Miller is embarrassed when her father, who is invited to all her premieres, sees her strip on screen.

Although Sienna, who has appeared nude in Factory Girl, Layer Cake, and Alfie, herself has no qualms appearing nude, she warns her dad to cover up when her naked moments appear and Edward Miller hides behind popcorns, thesun.co.uk reports.

She said: "I get embarrassed especially if my dad watches them. I get embarrassed watching them myself. But sometimes you just have to do it. It is not the most comfortable situation to be in, but if you are going to do a love scene you might as well do it. It has to be realistic and I think it is probably very rare that people have sex with their bras on, so if you are going to do it, just do it. That's my motto."

Exquisite Trisha

TRisha On Track

Heroine Trisha who has got back to the top with some very good hits in the Telugu industry in the form of 'Aadavari Maatalaku Ardhaalu Verule' and the recent 'Krishna' seems to be ruling the roost in Andhra. However, things are not looking that good for her in her home state Tamilnadu where her struggle for reaching the top still continues.

Trisha celebrated her 25th year birthday recently but got a bitter birthday gift as her crucial Tamil film with hero Vijay 'Kuruvi' is generating the talk of a flop. This was a very important movie for her given the fact that her recent films have not done well in Tamil and with Nayantara ruling the roost with back to back hits, her position on number one seems strong.

Folks say that Trisha might very well take the smart route of staying where it is serving her best and will look at solidifying her position on the top in the Telugu industry and strike at the Tamil base when the right chance comes. Currently, she has almost three films with leading stars in Telugu which should do her a good deal.

Kuselan’s costly music

Rajini’s Kuselan produced by Kavithalaya appears to be the toast of the media these days. The film’s music is being tuned in by the young G V Prakash Kumar who has completed tunes for five numbers for the film. As per Kollywood buzz, money has been pumped in to get the best type of acoustics and for this purpose Prakash will be leaving for London Metropolis Recording studio where the latest gizmos and facilities for sound mixing are said to be available in plenty. Though the cost that would be incurred due to this exercise will be very heavy, the production team seems to be very keen that when it comes to Rajini, only the best would suffice. A sound engineer will soon be leaving for the United Kingdom to complete sound mixing.

Shaam dances to the tune of Silambarasan

Anthony- Yaar is an upcoming film being directed by C T Pandu where Shaam and Mallika Kapoor will play the lead roles. Dheena composes music for the film and Silambarasan had recently crooned a number ‘Mallalikottai Kannu’ for this film along with Anooradha Sriram. A huge lavish set has been erected in A V M Studios to can this song sequence when the lead pair had waltzed with much energy and vigor.

The shooting of the film has been completed in various locales like Nagercoil, Muttom, Kulu, Manali etc. The theme of Anthony- Yaar is said to be centered on sea and the life associated with it. Prem Shankar, Pragathi and Rajesh are in the cast along with lead pair. Santonio wields the camera.

Vikram and Shriya ready to go!

The Vikram-Shriya starrer Kanthaswamy is moving at a very fast pace gearing up for a Diwali release. Vikram plays the title role in this film. Kanthaswamy turned out to be one of the most expected films of the year, especially after its unique inaugural function. Having returned from Mexico completing the first leg of shooting the team now returns to that country to complete the rest of the scenes.

According to our sources, the warm reception received by the team during the earlier visit has prompted the team to travel again to complete the shots. Producer Dhanu and director Susi Ganesan are already on their way to Mexico and the rest of the team including Vikram and Shriya are expected to fly tomorrow (9-5-08).

A BIG Hit ON July 18th

In this movie, Rajinikanth will play himself. Nayantara, Vadivelu, and Meena are also in the cast. Sneha too appears, as herself, in a song sequence with Rajni. The movie is also being produced in Telugu as Kuseladu, and in Hindi as Billo Barber with Shah Rukh Khan in the role of Rajinikanth.

Pyramid Saimira has secured the rights of the Tamil and Telugu versions by paying a whopping sum of Rs. 60 crores while the movie’s production cost was about Rs. 40 crores. They sure know the star power of Rajinikanth very well!!

Ajith’s respect for his fans

Ajith was seen in Yercaud shooting for Aegan. The fight sequences involving this actor are being shot here. As the news about Ajith’s shooting spread, a huge crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of their favourite actor. But the mood of crowd became euphoric when they came close to their favourite star. Since there was no security cordon, they thronged the actor. Some even tripped and fell over him, which made Ajith to lose his balance and fall down. Thankfully, the actor was not injured. He was very gentle and nice to his fans, and accepted their apologies for what happened. There was not an iota of anger on his face. Instead he had a calm smile.

It is indeed commendable behaviour from Ajith. It only shows how much he respects his fans and how much down-to-earth he is.

After this incident, tight security was provided for Ajith the next day and the fans were well behaved. A lot of them were shouting Ajith’s name. When the actor was done with his work and was about to leave, he had a small interaction with the fans. He answered their questions, asking a youthful bunch in the crowd about their profession. They replied in unison that they are students of a local college. He advised them to take their career seriously and be assiduous in their studies, and not to be bogged by petty shortcomings of life. The fans cheered every sentence of his.

Then, when they asked him about his next project, he replied that after Aegan, he will do a film for Goutham Menon under Sivaji Productions. He also told them that he was very much impressed with a story that Lingusamy told him recently and is contemplating working in it.

Vijay Courtesy

Vijay recently gifted a 32 gm. gold chain to Prem Nazeer, a famous dance director in Tollywood who received a lot of attention after he choreographed a dance sequence for NTR Jr. in Yamadonga. The dance sequence not only won the hearts of Tollywood audience, it also won Vijay’s heart. He immediately got in contact with Prem and requested him to work with him in Azhagiya Tamizh Magan. Prem choreographed the dance sequence for 'Ella pugazhum oruvan oruvanukkae', which came out well. Now he has worked on two songs in Kuruvi which have become very popular with audiences. Vijay was very happy with all this and presented Prem a 4-sovereign gold chain as a token of appreciation.

Dasavatharam investigation

This might be the toughest jigsaw ever. We have so many pieces and yet no clue as to what fits in where. So, we have no idea of what the big picture looks like. Let’s assume each role that Kamal does in Dasavatharam as one piece of the jigsaw and try to put all of them together piece by piece using all the information, rumors and imagination that we have. We may not get to the heart of Dasavatharam but the effort might be worth it.

Clue 1:

The first press release. This referred to the ancient tussle between Kulothunga cozhan and the Vaishnava saint Ramanujan. Dating back to the 14th century, legend connects their tussle to the revered idol at Srirangam in Trichy, an idol that was supposedly drowned in the sea along with the saint who was labeled a heretic. By the look of things, Kamal plays Ramanujan here, who is chained to the idol and dragged along with it.

Clue 2:

The stills: Among the first set of official stills of Dasavatharam to be released were two frames with Kamal and Asin, where Asin was shown holding something that looked like a small idol. Another still shows a priest carrying the same idol. Now this leads to the question: Was this the idol that was drowned along with Ramanujan in the 14th century, went on a long journey through the length and breadth of India and finally returned to Srirangam? There have also been a few SMSs circulating with stills showing Mughal looking kings holding the idol. This makes sense as the idol of Srirangam is said to have passed through the hands of the Mughals during its long journey.

Clue 3:

The latest stills: All of you have seen it and by now would be quite sure that Kamal indeed plays Ramanujam. But these set of stills show Kamal being chained to a larger than life-size idol and being drowned. Now, this is certainly not the idol that we saw Asin holding, nor can this be the idol that according to legend went on a long journey across India. Here the jigsaw fails to connect.

Clue 4:

The next press release: This revealed a scene that was shot which involved lyricist Kapilan. Kamal and Kapilan together protest and stop illegal sand quarrying from a river bed, Kapilan recites a verse describing his feelings- that’s what the scene is all about. The theme of the scene is definitely very contemporary and could have found a place in Al Gore’s Inconvenient Truth. But what puzzles us here is what such a theme or track is doing in a movie that has stills indicating a mythological/legend/ drama? What would environmental concerns be doing in such a movie?

Clue 5:

The stills again: All of you might have seen Kamal in the trailer (and the stills) in a body suit, fully covered in a sophisticated research facility. Now, it is easy to believe that he is training to be an astronaut in the movie but the more distinct possibility is that the research facility we saw is a high-tech bioscience laboratory. And, we have heard a few things about biological weapons and warfare in connection with Dasavatharam. So, is one of the Kamals involved in a biological warfare research lab and how does this form a part of a movie that has its origins in the 14th century. And, after the audio release function Jackie Chan had said something about the movie in which we had heard the word ‘pollution’ and allied terms. Now, we have environmental conservation, biological warfare and pollution control all jostling for space in the same movie.

Clue 6:

The tsunami: The tsunami scene is one of the highlights of Dasavatharam. When does it happen, why and how? From the stills it does look like it is from the 14th century when the movie begins. How do the seismic waves originate? Some opinions have been floating around that it is the wrath of the Lord of Srirangam who had been drowned that causes the giant waves. But, looking at the above sub plots of pollution control and environmental conservation, a deeper message cannot be ruled out here.

Clue 7:

Big or small: Does the story revolve around the big idol or the small idol, both of which are present in the movie? Well, some ingenious brains have been working up some great theories. One such theory says that the giant idol that was drowned in the sea was made of a very powerful/valuable stone and vested foreign interests are trying to get their hands on it. That sort of explains why we see Kamal fighting a foreigner in the trailer. But the question remains, is the fight for the big idol or the small one?

Clue 8:

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) was reportedly not very happy with the depiction of the Vaishnava-Shaiva conflict of the 14th century (without even seeing the movie). But the production house has issued a clarification stating that the movie in no way hurts the feelings of devotees.

Clue 9:

This one adds to the confusion: the other roles played by Kamal. The old lady, the Sardar, George Bush-what are these characters doing in a movie that involves Srirangan?!

Clue 10:

The unpredictability: We have heard a lot, assumed a lot, seen a little and yet nowhere near to knowing what Dasavatharam is. We feel that it might be two perspectives: the spiritual and the scientific, with a contemporary message. But then, the man behind this is Kamal and when Dr. Kamal Haasan is at work, nothing is predictable.
