Jackie Chan’s antics in Chennai

There are many reports that say Jackie Chan has proved that all that glitters is not gold.
We always thought before his arrival here to participate in the 'Dasavataram' function that Jackie Chan was a simple man and a jolly person who talks very humorously. But those who had witnessed Jackie Chan's antics tell differently. The news that appeared in the press is as follows:

He had hesitated about participating, as it was an audio release function. He agreed only after the offer of crores of Rupees.

Rooms were reserved in a 5 star hotel in Chennai for his stay. There they prepare all kinds of cuisine including Chinese to cater to their customers. But Jackie Chan refused all that food. He had brought special chefs from Hong Kong along with him.

He refused to drink the mineral water and he insisted on getting imported mineral water. Many fans and actors were waiting to see and meet him, but he refused to meetanyone. On the pretext of having to take rest, he stayed behind in his room.Mallika Sheravat, the glamour queen of Hindi films alone was with him, and she used to come out to show her face now and then.

No one else was admitted into his room. He has said 'no' even to the Malayalam superstar Mammooty who was staying on the same floor of the hotel. Even the producer, who had spent crores in producing 'Dasavataram' could not enter his room or speak to him. Even he had to send information only through Mallika.

Jackie Chan came out of the room only after Mallika went to the stadium andgave clearance that everything was ok. Asked if he would like to meet India's superstar Amitabh Bachchan who had come to take part in the function, he casually brushed aside the request saying, "Who, bachan? I don't know anyone".

But while speaking at the function, he praised everyone sky high.

Vijay's new film 'Singam'

The film Vijay will be acting after 'Kuruvi' is titled as 'Singam'.

Udhayanidhi Stalin's 'Kurivi' was originally supposed to be produced by London Karunas’ Ayangaran International. At the request of Udhayanidhi to do a film for him, Vijay gave the call sheet to him that was given to London Karunas.

Now that 'Kuruvi' is complete and waiting for release, Vijay has given the call sheet to London Karunas. The film that will be directed by Prabhudeva is titled as 'Singam'.

As Nayantara lost out to Trisha in 'Pokkiri' and 'Kuruvi', Vijay has given her a chance to be his pair in this film. The story of 'Singam' follows the commercial formula of Vijay. After this film, Vijay will do a film for M Balasubramaniam on behalf of A.V.M Studio and also a film for Udhayanidhi.

It may be recalled that a film with Vijay titled as 'Puli' to be directed by S.J Suryah was given up.

Sherin espouses Asin’s ways!

A short sabbatical after Urchagam, Sherin is now ready to don the greasepaint once again. This actress from Mumbai states that she prefers meaty roles and would wait rather than accept mediocre roles. About her next project with Sanjayram, titled Poova Thalaya, Sherin disclosed that she would dub for the movie for the first time. Donning the role of a Brahmin girl, she is required to speak in Brahminical accent, for which she is undergoing special training. In fact Asin, who dubs for all her films irrespective of the language, was also specially coached to speak the Brahmin tongue for Dasavatharam, despite being well-versed in many languages.

Sherin currently plays the role of a software engineer in S.J. Suryah’s Vil. Speaking for her role in Vil, she said: “As the role demands dressing up in modern outfits, I would be sporting some glam clothes.”

Maddy to work with Big B

In maybe the most exciting opportunity of his career Madhavan will work with Amitabh Bachchan that will start by this year end. To be directed by Leena Yadav who had earlier done Shabd with Sanjay Dutt and Aishwarya Rai, the movie is titled Teen Patte. As the title suggests the movie has got a lot to do with playing cards and gambling and Madhavan is right now preparing himself for the role by learning the nuances of cards. Madhavan was not the original choice for the role, it was meant to be played by Arshad Warsi. But the latter had to withdraw due to certain reasons and the role landed straight into Madhavan’s kitty. Of course, this is not the first time that Maddy will be sharing screen space with the Big B. They had earlier appeared together in Ramji Londonwaley, the Hindi remake of Nala Damayanthi in which Amitabh had made a special appearance at the end. However, this will be Maddy’s first full length role with the Big B. All the best, Maddy.

Vasantha Balan going strong and steady

Vasantha Balan, a former associate of director Shankar, has emerged a director to reckon with in Tamil industry.

Though his maiden venture ‘Album’ disappeared without any trace, he bounced back strongly with ‘Veyyil’, which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

He is currently busy wielding the megaphone for ‘Angadi Theru’, a movie featuring ‘Thamizh MA’ fame Anjali in the lead role.

Soon after ‘Angadi Theru’, Vasantha Balan would be doing a off-beat film for Amma Creations, who is currently producing ‘Saroja’ directed by Venkat Prabhu .

Vijay shines in his new role

Ilaya Thalapathi really seems to be enjoying his new role as the brand ambassador of the Chennai Superkings. The team has been having a great run and there is no better reason to celebrate a victory. After the Superkings’ victory over the Knight Riders on Saturday there was a special ‘click’ moment that appeared in the next day’s newspapers. Vijay standing along with the team that was (as mentioned in the newspaper) ‘savoring the victory’. Now, for one who really doesn’t know Vijay (not you or me, maybe someone in North India or the North East) might have easily though that this guy was a part of the team, a playing member. Dressed in the yellow jersey and standing between Jacob Oram, Dhoni and Mathew Hayden, Vijay looked every inch a Chennai Superking. He is certainly playing his role of the team’s brand ambassador to perfection and if the good days continue the Chennai Superkings will be the Kings of 20-20. All the best.

Kuruvi Trisha's HOT

Ragava Larencce choreographs Rajinikanth

Pyramid Saimira bought the film rights of Kuselan (Kuseladu in Telugu)for 64 crore rupees and it is going to distribute the film in Tamil and Telugu.

Kuselan is a remake of a Malayalam movie Katha Parayumbol. K. Balachander’s Kavithalaya and Seven Arts found it interesting and decided to remake it in Tamil and Telugu with the title Kuselan and Kuseladu respectively.

In this movie directed by P. Vasu, the highlight is Rajinikanth who appears as himself. Pasupathi, Meena, Vadivelu, Nayantara are also in the cast. The film’s shooting is going on in Hyderabad’s Ramoji Rao Film Studio.

Ragava Larencce is a rare film personality with multi-talents. A great admirer of 'Super Star ' Rajinikanth, Larencce has choreographed a song for his mentor (Rajinikanth) for ‘Kuselan’. The song was shot recently in Ramoji Rao Film Studio in Hyderabad.

Choreographer-actor-director Ragava Larencce is thrilled to work with Rajinikanth. Currently playing the title role in ‘Pandi’ opposite Sneha and Namitha, Larencce has come up with some catchy movements for Rajinikanth, which would be admired by his fans.

‘Kuselan’, directed by P Vasu, features Rajinikanth, Pasupathy, Namitha and Meena in lead roles.

A remake of Malayalam hit ‘Katha Parayumbol’, the movie is fast shaping up in Hyderabad.

Ajith’s film goes international

Billa, the yesteryear blockbuster of superstar Rajinikanth was remade with Ajith, Nayanthara and Namitha playing the lead roles. This film turned out to be a smash hit, more so for its stylish portrayal. Billa’s popularity is taking it far and wide and now the movie is all set to be showcased in the Cannes Film Festival. According to our sources, the film will be screened on 10th May, 2008 at 4 pm. The film’s director Vishnuvardhan and producer S. Suresh have flown down to France to participate in the event. With many films from Kollywood reaching the international arena, this will be yet another milestone.

Mumaith turns producer

Item girl Mumaith Khan won the hearts of Tollywood audiences with her sizzling dance numbers. Her song 'Ippatikinkaa Naa Vayasu Ninda Padahare...' is a must-be-performed song for any music and dance show these days.

On one hand, she is very busy with her item numbers; on the other hand, she grabbed the opportunity to play heroine. Her role in Operation Duryodhana earned her critical acclaim. Later, she was the heroine in a couple of other films. Though not prominent commercial hits, the films earned good openings and the producers recovered their investments without any losses.

To portray certain dream roles which she longs for, Mumaith is turning producer. She does not want to force others to make films of her choice; hence the decision to take up film production.

However, she firmly said that she has no plans to wield the megaphone. If all goes well, a film under her own banner will start shooting by the end of this year.

Dasavatharam trailer Review

Spectacular. That’s the word that comes to mind when you see the Dasavatharam trailer. Dasavatharam feels like a complete spectacle, from star to finish: relentless action, stunts, explosions, martial arts, set pieces, and suspense. A lot of the
daredevil action seems to alternate between underwater and aerial sequences. Is the tidal wave of water we see a Tsunami or an explosion? The very first image is that of inside the Oval office at the White House. This is a tantalizing glimpse. Further, we get glimpses of two Kamals: one looks like the fresh-faced, naïve young man from Indian, the other the sinister, pony tailed assassin from Hey Ram. Kamal is probably cleverly using the Hey Ram like get up for another purpose entirely.

Dasavatharam’s director K.S. Ravikumar (as usual) seems to be making a cameo. From the quick images flashing, we can guess that at least a part of the story is set within the context of an orthodox Brahmin family (Asin resembles an Iyengari) and another part with a Sikh family or some background pertaining to the politics and history of the Sikhs. The very South Indian orthodox looking sequences seem to hint at ancient Shaivite conflicts. But how does something like that relate to a story also involving the President of the United States?! Intriguing, indeed. At yesterday evening’s audio launch, Kamal repeatedly said the 11th role he was donning in Dasavatharam was as scriptwriter. Something he said was just as hard – perhaps harder. He’s confident he’s come up with a plot that will grip our imagination. The trailer is clever not to give away too much – enough though to have you salivating for the real thing.
